Three Stones: The Cross and the Circle

The exhibition Three Stones: The Cross and the Circle shows how three stones outside Westport conceal a story long lost in time.

Folklore records that many of the megalithic stones of Mayo are more than six thousand years ago. So we decided to investigate. It turns out that these stones show plainly some extraordinarily practical details: how to navigate at night using the Southern Cross and the stars of Centaurus, constellations last visible in Ireland over six thousand years ago.
